California Skateparks unveils design for first Stop of the 2011 Street League Tour
California Skateparks released today, it’s plaza style design for Street League Skateboarding’s first event of the 2011 season at Key Arena in Seattle Washington.
UPLAND, CA (May, 3rd 2011) – California Skateparks, the worldwide leader in the design and construction of skateparks and plazas, has joined forces with Street League Skateboarding for the second year in a row to create the world’s best environments for competitive street skateboarding. CA Skateparks Owner, Joe Ciaglia, and Lead Designer, Colby Carter, have collaborated with Rob Dyrdek once again to design 4 unique, highly detailed, concrete street plaza environments for the 2011 tour.
Skateboarding is limitless by design. Built on a foundation of progression, street skateboarding is one of the most technically intricate and dynamic sports in the world. No other past time, art form, or sport evolves the way street skateboarding does. The architecture and terrain skateboarders ride directly influences the progression of what can be done on a skateboard. Whether they are structures found in the urban environment or made for skateboarding, modern architecture has had a profound effect on the evolution of skateboarding.
California Skateparks design team creates technically detailed concrete skateboarding environments with authentic artistic architecture, while trying to replicate the organic nature of real street spots. To maximize the talents of the competitors, the Street League features have been meticulously designed to compliment the skater’s abilities and reflect the true power of street skateboarding. The plaza’s artistic design details and aesthetics inspires creativity and helps produce a high level of skateboarding.
The unique designs incorporate a diverse combination of materials, textures, colors, motifs and paving patterns punctuated with artistic elements and landscaping. The plazas are designed and constructed using new methodologies and techniques. They are ingenuously integrated into the arena so that it looks and skates like a permanent structure but can be set up and taken down in 5 days.
Design Inspiration for the Seattle Washington event at Key Arena
For the 2011 season Street League created a unique 4 color graphic for each event. The design of the 1st stop in Seattle, Washington was themed around the graphic incorporating the color way and line work from the pattern. Elements were chosen by Rob himself from our library of features and integrated into the configuration of this year’s events.
The design was heavily influenced by Seattle architecture and the blue, light gray, yellow and dark grey colors in the Seattle graphic. Drawing from the angular line work and color way in the Seattle graphic, the decorative paving pattern was designed in harmony around the artistic elements in each section of the plaza.
The design team gathered inspiration for their vision from indoor malls and entry plazas to create the setting for Key Arena. Implementing an angular theme, the design includes terracing, staggered planters, a variety of stairs sets and ledges, cantilevered detailing and interesting paving pattern giving this course design a unique style and flavor.
