Posted on June 5th, 2011

With the 2011 skateboarding contest season rolling on, the Maloof Money Cup kicks off its fourth season with a return to Queens New York @ Flushing Meadows Corona Skate Plaza (designed and built by CA skateparks) for its second annual stop in the borough.  This year’s event was a tightly contested battle with $160,000 in prize money on the line.  The event brought out more than 25,000 skateboarding fans and after two days of skating qualifiers and elimination rounds, the finals featured the matchup everyone was anticipating: fan favorite Greg Lutzka v. current Tampa Pro champion Dennis Busenitz.  Lutzka edged Busenitz for the win, who put forth a solid effort in second, followed by Ryan Decenzo in third.  This is contest format regular Lutzka’s most notable and profitable victory to date.  Amateur Evan Smith impressed the crowd with his unique style and bag of tricks.  At just 20 years old he claimed the am title and receieved  $1,500 cash, a one year supply of vitamin water, and an invite to the open qualifiers in South Africa later this year.  Additional event and course design info here.  Official Maloof Money Cup news feature here
