On Friday July 22nd, 2011, the city of Los Angeles held it’s grand opening for the Westchester Skate Plaza. The 13,000 square foot Skate Plaza was designed and built by CA Skateparks and features a variety of elements designed for hardcore street skating. Eric Koston and Steve Berra of the Berrics were on hand for the opening celebration along with a host of other pros including Luan Oliviera, David Gonzales, Curren Caples, Pat Duffy, Kurtis Colamonico, and Braydon Szfranski. Champion of the skate plaza project and Los Angeles city councilmember Bill Rosendahl presided over the day’s events. Skaters came from as far away as Carson City, Nevada to skate the plaza on opening day. The Westchester Skate Plaza was made possible by funding from the city of Los Angeles and a generous contribution from the Annenberg Foundation. CA Skateparks donated some extra features to round out this excellent new skate facility.

Bemidji Skatepark in Minnesota is under snow! However, this is not stopping the dedicated skaters of Bemidji. All winter long they have been digging out features and shoveling snow aside to keep this park skateable, even in their extreme weather conditions. Minnesota has low temperatures in the 20′s! These temperatures would keep most skaters inside during the winter months, but this chilling weather is not deterring the skaters here.
This park was designed by Site Design Group and the specialty concrete done by California Skateparks.

Etnies skatepark in Lake Forest has begun construction on the expansion of an additional 16,000 square feet. This million dollar expansion will add a street run with six stairs, manny pad, A-frame bump, mini bowl, and added alterations to the existing park. With the skatepark changes, the park will be the biggest free skatepark in the US and one of the largest parks in the world! It will total around 60,000 square feet in size. The expansion concept was designed by Nick Gates, city of Lake Forest staff, the skateboard community, and Site Design Group. California Skateparks will again be the builders of this landmark park.

Joe Ciaglia and Colby Carter worked with professional skateboarder Sean Malto and Dan Askew from Escapist skate shop to design a new skate spot for the Street League rider. The skate spot is an indoor, concrete park that is 8,866 sq. ft. and located in Malto’s hometown of Kansas City. California Rampworks provided construction documentation and worked with California Skateparks to build the facility in a little over 2 weeks. See some pictures below and check back for some footage of their first session!

A second DC commercial was filmed in the back lot of the California Skateparks headquarters with professional DC rider, Nick Dompierre. Built by California Skateparks, this artificial Hollywood set is just like you would see in the movies, contructed from 3/4 inch thick plywood and then covered in texture to replicate real concrete. Add a concrete ramp, lights, cameras, and pro’s and watch the experts create an amazing national ad campaign.
