California Skateparks is proud to announce the opening of the redesigned Skatepark at Coleman Oval Park in NYC which is hosting Go Skateboarding Day today June 21st, 2012.
The skatepark has received a complete makeover thanks to a collaboration of community skate advocate Steve Rodriguez (5boro Skateboards), Preeti Sodhi a Design Fellow with Architecture for Humanity, a Nike Gamechangers grant, The NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, community members, and California Skateparks.
The new skate park was designed and built specifically to suit the unique character and demographic mix of the surrounding neighborhood. The park aims to, once again, become a landmark in the community and give the densely urban enthusiasts a chance to get out and realize their potential.
California Skateparks is proud to have been a part of this project. We utilized the latest design and construction practices to make the park relevant and up to current skateboarding trends.
The Coleman Oval Skatepark is located on the border between Manhattan’s Chinatown and Lower East Side, it is bound by Market, Pike, Cherry, and Monroe Streets, and is one block west of the FDR parkway and the East River under the Manhattan Bridge.
