Courtesy of NY Skateboarding, Steve Rodriguez takes a walk around the recently opened skate park at Colemon Oval Park in New York. The new skate park was collaborative design built specifically to suit the unique character and demographic mix of the surrounding neighborhood. The park aims to, once again, become a landmark in the community and give the densely urban enthusiasts a chance to get out and realize their potential. See how Rodriguez rates the park below.

Coleman Oval Skatepark – Opening Today June 21, 2012

Coleman Oval Skatepark

California Skateparks is proud to announce the opening of the redesigned Skatepark at Coleman Oval Park in NYC which is hosting Go Skateboarding Day today June 21st, 2012.

 

The skatepark has received a complete makeover thanks to a collaboration of community skate advocate Steve Rodriguez (5boro Skateboards), Preeti Sodhi a Design Fellow with Architecture for Humanity, a Nike Gamechangers grant, The NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, community members, and California Skateparks.

 

The new skate park was designed and built specifically to suit the unique character and demographic mix of the surrounding neighborhood. The park aims to, once again, become a landmark in the community and give the densely urban enthusiasts a chance to get out and realize their potential.

California Skateparks is proud to have been a part of this project.  We utilized the latest design and construction practices to make the park relevant and up to current skateboarding trends.

The Coleman Oval Skatepark is located on the border between Manhattan’s Chinatown and Lower East Side, it is bound by Market, Pike, Cherry, and Monroe Streets, and is one block west of the FDR parkway and the East River under the Manhattan Bridge.

Coleman Oval Skatepark, on the border between Manhattan’s Chinatown and Lower East Side, bounded by Market, Pike, Cherry, and Monroe Streets, and is one block west of the FDR parkway and the East River under the Manhattan Bridge. Design lead, Steve Rodriguez, has been working with CA Skateparks to design and build this new landmark skate spot in New York which has been largely funded by GameChangers, Nike, and Architect for Humanity. More updates on the way.

 




REMODEL | Coleman Oval Skatepark

Check out the sneak peak of the design for the new Coleman Oval Skatepark to be located under the Manhattan Bridge in NYC!  The park is getting a complete concrete makeover in the near future thanks to California Skateparks, Architecture for Humanity, and Steve Rodriguez of New York City.
